Poverty

Several recent studies have estimated that 40 to 50 percent of the total population lives below the poverty line. The cause of poverty in the region includes governance factors (e.g., the lack of strong pro poor policies) economic factors (e.g. the recent slowdown of tourism industry) and the property rights of the poor to crucial resources (such as land, water and forest) have also become increasingly restricted over time

Gender

Women constitute approximately 51 % of the total population. Their contribution to the region’s wellbeing, however remained undervalued and largely unseen, and their needs and aspirations often remained unrecognized. Despite the execution of many Government development initiatives over last two decades, there have been only poor improvements in the economic and social conditions of women

Health

The population of the Gilgit Baltistan suffers from a wide range of health problems, including diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, Hepatitis, Carcinoma, shigellosis, amoebiasis and asthma. Education Status

AAS’s programmatic aim for the promotion of basic education is based on the belief that education is a fundamental solution to address poverty.
